Monday of this week started with the typical bureaucratic back and forth to finalize Mexican residency. Process at the immigration office was relatively fast and looking at it from an investment perspective a home run.
For 4,413 MXN (approximately $222 USD), some paperwork, and familiarity with tax rules for FEIE resulted in a tax savings anywhere between an estimated $4,000-$23,000 per year depending on earned income in any given year for an ROI of 1,701% on the low end and 10,201% on the high end. No speculation, no wild price swings, no surprise government regulations, actually rather boring.
Residency also means I can continue my favorite lifestyle design investment: earning dollars and spending pesos (again no speculation, no wild price swings just geo-arbitrage) and potentially hedge against growing inflation in the US and the dollar. Throw in delicious, celebratory, street tacos and I can add one more tool to my lifestyle design tool kit.
If you are a US remote worker or location independent and would like to learn about this strategy reach out.
Every Friday I share one lifestyle design idea, something I am reading (new feature), something that inspired me, and one question for my readers.

One Lifestyle Design Idea From Me
Have Courage.
Listen to conversations around you and the word courage is rarely mentioned.
In a time when fear is everywhere, never spoken but always suggested, courage became a forgotten virtue. It might have to do with all the time we spend living in our mind avoiding living in our hearts. But courage doesn’t require acts of heroism like in the movies.
Courage can be as simple as how children approach life.
A spirit of adventure, curiosity, willing to ask questions and try new things, almost defiant to the dangers that exist in the world. If you are reading this and have lived through a pandemic, job losses, hospitalizations, had your heart broken, lost a loved one and you are still here then give yourself some credit. You are still here, have courage.
One Thing I Am Reading
Heart Breath Mind: Train Your Heart to Conquer Stress and Achieve Success.
The average adult takes 20,000 breathes every day and how we breathe can be optimized to create heart-brain coherence and balance our sympathetic and parasympathetic responses for better energy and stress response.
One Thing That Inspired Me
From Sal Khan of Khan Academy: Beyond a certain level pay and things like bonuses are actually not a great incentive. What people really care about is enough pay, to feel valued, and support their family at a reasonable standard of living but beyond that it’s about having a mission and feel real purpose working with other people who are alongside invested in you and have stimulating work that leverages your skills.
One Question For My Readers
How can I focus more on meaning and less on money?
Any comments, questions, or thoughts from you the reader are always welcomed.
Until Next Week. Happy week ahead!
