Tuesday of this week I dropped by Laboratorios Polanco for a health screening that includes blood, x-ray, and electrocardiogram analysis for $1700 MXN (approximately $85 USD). I was already in their system from a previous visit in 2016 while working with a Canadian health optimization doctor based in Ecuador.
The bio-hacker in me feels like a kid in a candy store with the selection of tests offered. No doctor prescription needed. Got money? We will test you all day long at a price you will find reasonable.
A few years back I had a medical emergency and was floored to learn my total bill was $175,000 for a 17 day stay in a US hospital. Insurance covered the majority of it and recovery was complete. I also learned how health insurance costs in the US are frankly abusive, enriching insurance companies making me question the narrative that government is looking out for my health.
My lab results were emailed to me later that evening and I received a clean bill of health along with my thoracic x-ray and electrocardiogram printout as a memento for pick up on Thursday.
Investing $85 USD to monitor my health, including heart health, the most likely cause of death, and the time dividend it may yield was my lifestyle design investment for the week.
Every Friday I share one lifestyle design idea, something I am reading, something that inspired me, and one question for my readers.
Ready for this week’s edition? Hang on tight…
One Lifestyle Design Idea From Me
Time is the great equalizer.
We all get 24 hours in a day but end up with very different life outcomes.
In a time-deprived world it’s a badge of honor for many to say I’m too busy. But you may want to consider the cost of being too busy. If you are using your time in ways that brings you meaning and fulfillment you may have experienced the feeling of flow. If your time allocation however is leaving you short of breath and anxious setting a goal to maximize for meaning and fulfillment may help reprioritize the things you do on a consistent basis. Seek opportunities that have a time dividend because more money and less time might not be worth it.
What I Am Reading
Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt by Michael Lewis. This one has been on my list for a while. If you have money invested in assets traded on a computer and are not familiar with the plumbing and all the intermediaries that makes the system work, can’t recommend this one enough.
One Thing That Inspired Me

One Question For My Readers
How can I imitate nature and accomplish my goals?
If you found value here it would mean a lot to me if you can share it with someone.
Any comments, questions, or thoughts from you the reader are always welcomed.
Until Next Week. Happy week ahead!

Thanks for your thoughts and reflections, Ed! I like it! The consideration of nature is great. I'll be thinking on that. Thanks! 😊
